Growing Globally – How to Start Planning your International Expansion

Achieving global growth is a key part of building a successful company but it can be challenging to figure out what markets to target and how to prepare your company for sales outside Canada. To help you start planning your international expansion, ventureLAB is hosting an info session on global growth on November 13 from 10:00 – 11:30am. Come meet representatives of the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS), Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development Job Creation and Trade (MEDJCT), Export Development Canada (EDC), and the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC).

About the presenters:

The Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) is a federal service that helps Canadian companies grow globally. Through its network of 160+ international offices, the TCS connects companies with market intelligence, advice on market entry strategies, and warm introductions to potential clients, partners and investors. Petia Tchoukaleyska is based in Toronto at the TCS office for Ontario, and works with tech and life sciences companies.

The Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade (MEDJCT) helps Ontario companies grow and scale by strengthening their capacity to export internationally. The Ministry provides Ontario companies with export preparation programs, one on one advisory support to develop their international strategy, trade missions, and assistance navigating export resources and relevant government partners to be successful in international markets. Suzanne Drisdelle leads a team of Senior Export Advisors to engage regional partners across Ontario to identify and prepare companies for international markets. Daiana Villarreal is a Senior Export Advisor covering the Central East region of Ontario, she also delivers seminars and one-on-one export advisory services to help companies understand how to export to international markets.

Export Development Canada (EDC) is a Government of Canada crown corporation with a mandate to help Canadian companies go, grow and succeed internationally. EDC achieves this by providing foreign market knowledge, connections and a suite of risk mitigation and financing solutions. Aqeel Rahim is based in Vaughan and covers the North and East GTA with a focus on small and medium sized companies.

The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) is a financial institution owned by the Government of Canada and is the only bank devoted exclusively to entrepreneurs. BDC helps create and develop Canadian businesses through financing, advisory, and venture capital services and can be thought of as the commercial lending arm of the Government of Canada. Adam Nicolaou is based out of Markham, Ontario and works with technology companies that are scaling up.
