In the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s project management grew in popularity partly because of the power of the concept of a project. However, over the last fifteen years, that popularity has started to erode as more and more organizations adopt flow-, agility- and product-oriented approaches. Are projects as traditionally understood still relevant? How is the discipline and profession of project management evolving to compete with or embrace these new approaches? Is there a risk that project management might decline to the point of it becoming a small, narrow niche skill, no longer popular with organizations?
